Which opera arias would you like Jonathan to sing on A Night at the Opera Tour?

I know there is another thread 'What Song Would You Love To Hear Jon sing? '  . That thread is in general, and it can be on live event and on his CD.

This one is focused on A Night at the Opera. not sure if I should put it on Tour thread Confused

    My wish list Big SmileMusic

La Fille de Regiment (I know this is the title of opera, but the song has such a long title in FrenchConfused) renowned for its high Cs. Jonathan's hero Pavarotti sang in the past. The latest one is at Covent Garden was sang by Juan Diego Florez . He looked cute in leather shorts as a Tyrolean boy. I bet Jonathan would look very cute too Angel and also the shorts would delight certain fansWink

E Lucevan l'Estelle  - I know they sang as requested by a lady when they were busking at Covent Garden. I wanted G4 to sing. Now I hope Jonathan will sing

I will come back and add more...Smile

I've been going on about this one for ages but although it is the 'Everest' for tenors I don't really like it that much so it depends how much it would take out of him and whether the show would suffer as a result??

I want to be a bit surprised and seeing the list of operas on the poster I think it will just be interesting  to see what he sings, what are duets and what is sung by guests.  But the most  intriguing mention so far is Pearl Fishers - but I really do not want to know who the bass/baritone is likely to be??

This is why i'd like more clarity about what part the cast will play in the evening if they will be joining Jonathan for duets etc ..or maybe they will give a choir backing type imput...just sets the scene for the tour to have clarity so buyers know what they can expect from the evening .Smile

Would love Pearl Fishers and Flower Duet has always been a fave of mine Smile

I would so love Che Gelida Manina - my favourite on Tenor at the Movies.

I'm also hoping that La Traviata means that he will be singing Brindisi.

I'd also love La donne e mobile and Nessun Dorma.

I also loved the song by Faust that the tenor on FNIMN did - dont know where it's from or anything - I think Jonathan said it was "sung to his house?"

Largo al Factotum (Figaro) from the Barber of Seville

Some duets - like the Flower Duet would be nice - if he has the sort of special guests that could do that with him.

And this is one of my very very favourite pieces of music - I had it in my wedding: it's from Orfeo ed Erudice:

"Che farò senza Euridice?"/“J’ai perdu mon Eurydice” ("What I will do without Euridice?)

    http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=yu712xBNQLA&feature=related

    and a lower version:

    http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=IYxgVjpZvrw&feature=related

    A bit of the plot:

On the way out of Hades, Euridice is delighted to be returning to earth, but Orfeo, remembering the condition related by Amore in Act I, (HE MUST NOT LOOK AT HER!) lets go of her hand and refuses to look at her, does not explain anything to her. She does not understand his action and reproaches him, but he must suffer in silence. Euridice takes this to be a sign that he no longer loves her, and refuses to continue, concluding that death would be preferable. Unable to take any more, Orfeo turns and looks at Euridice; again, she dies. Orfeo sings of his grief in the famous aria "Che farò senza Euridice?"/“J’ai perdu mon Eurydice” ("What I will do without Euridice?)

    Such a beautiful aria.

Molly, when you mentioned it, I had no idea Confused, listened to You tube and realised I knew it very wellBig Smile

Since I didn't like operas (until G4) I believed all opera arias were boring, not knowing I already knew a lot of them Big Smile.

I prefer the lower version. Although I love Jonathan's high notes, I'm not too keen on certain singing technique of countertenor like the higher version of this one. - OK to be in the harmony, but not as a solo.

I dont think it has anything to do with that song Natalie. I might be wrong though - it does sound slightly like it doesnt it.

I'm the same Kay - so many pieces I know - but dont know the names of - when I hear them - I know that I know them!

I prefer the lower version of this aria too.

Like you - I absolutely love Jonathan singing high - but I'm not so keen on a whole song being sung high - I prefer to have just some high bits to accentuate a piece.

I would be over the moon if Jonathan sang this at the concert - it's one of my favourite pieces of music along with Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves and Elizabethan Serenade......and lot's more!

Andreas Scholl is a bit of a special case technically a countertenor but sounds a bit like a castrato which personally I find a bit uncomfortable but many people find attractive?

The thing that I am looking forward to seeing is how these arias will be presented - will it be tails and costumes or will it be modern - would kinda like to see a 'crossover' style to make it more relevant.

Would be nice to see the 'tails, white bow ties and white waistcoats', but who knows how they will present this show - mmmmmm Hmm

I hope it's tails and costumes.

I'd so love this concert to be done with class and style.  I dream of a beautiful classical concert - as far removed from Arenas as a concert can get!

Orchestra, beautiful music, lovely costumes/dress suits, total silence and rapture whilst Jonathan sings......... and massive applause and standing ovations at the end. Yes

Well so what do you think

Can't find a pic of a modern twist on this other than wedding garb but here's hoping that there will be a 'crossover' of style as well as songs?
