    Jon and Rhydian?

I was fortunate enough to meet Rhydian Roberts last week when he appeared at the NEC, Birmingham. He is such a charming man and like Jon, he has a golden voice.  My friend asked him if he would like to sing alongside Jon......his reply  'YES'  Sounds a great idea to me.  Incidently Rhydian will have an album out in October.

Would you like to hear them sing together?

    Jean

    Re: Jon and Rhydian?

I think Jon is a better singer than Rhydian. So I think it is better if Jon stays on his own.

Rhydian doesnt float my boat either sorry Jean.

I prefer Tenors to Baritones - although I do make an exception for the fabulous voice of baritone Matthew Stiff!

I like Jonathan duetting with females - the duets with Hayley and All Angels are beautiful - the voices compliment each other wonderfully well - so my personal thoughts on it are - if doing duets - stick with the ladies Jonathan!  Big Smile

It would be interesting to see these two together..but I don't think it will happen somehow...Jon will hopefully be busy in Vegas and R will probably be promoting his CD anyway!!Indifferent

Jonathan's 2nd album 'Forever' will be released on the 10th November 2008....an album NOT to be missed!!

I'm with you Molly-sorry Jean but Rhydian and Jonathan are in totally different places Smile ..I only know a little about Rhydian but the little I do know suggests he will be marketed well away from classical music.

Jonathan needs to be working in the classical genre now -he and Universal have done too much work taking steps into the classical genre to risk undoing that work. And I agree with Molly-I think the best collaborations are with sopranos and classical musicians  ....beautifully complimenting Jonathan's stunning voice. Smile

(off topic a little-Very surprised Rhydian is getting a pre-Christmas album.Shayne and Leona must not be releasing their third and second albums this Christmas then ...surely even Simon Cowell would not release a load of x factor albums in one go.He would be slated as trying to control the Christmas albums market ...especially if he has Il Divo and Westlife albums released the same time ...)

    In short, no.

I have nothing against Rhydian but Jonathan has worked hard to get away from his X Factor image and it would not be good to be associated with it again.

    Good question Jean.

Rhydian may be a nice chap but voice wise I much prefer Jon and wouldn't like to see them sing together ........... there again you never know if they will be 'thrown' together at some point but I hope not. Sorry.Big Smile

    Re: Jon and Rhydian?

Well it was no secret I thought Rhyd was fab on the x-factor, And he got my vote :)

But to put them together, Im not sure Id be that into that to be honest.

To be honest, Although I still quite like Rhyd, some of the novelty has worn off for me, He was in my opinion the best on the xfactor for that series,  I'll buy his album and what have you. Maybe go see him once or twice,

I think they are two very different people. And as lovely as some duets are, I'm not sure Id be over excited about thsi one, I love Rhyds voice but not competing with Jons Im afraid. And Jon's is by far the better and more superior voice of the two(in my opinion anyway) I just cant see hwo it would work, But I dare say it could or would. I just dont think Id be thrilled with the outcome, And I like Rhydian so who knows

As for the whole x-factor thing and dragging jon back to it, And how he needs to get away. Im not getting that, At the end of the day, You've all just brought it back up ??? Dont get me wrong I know what your saying, And teh x-factor doesnt need to be prominent, But it's almost like he should be ashamed of it, But why should it, Its with thanks to that we are all here opn this forum having this very discussion isnt it :) He's a totally different person from back then in how he sings and performs Obviously, He's come on so much. But he shouldnt bury that aprt of his career.

Don't judge this Jules 'til you've walked in her shoes!

    Re: Jon and Rhydian?

I totally agree with the previous posts. Jonathon has a far superior voice to Rhydian. I know for a fact though that Rhydian also wants to get away from the X-Factor tag! I think it would be pretty unlikely that they would ever duet together, as Jonathon is now into beautiful classical music, whereas Rhydian's new album out in October, will be more modern - more like Josh Groban.

Simon Cowell is sending Rhydian to Los Angeles for 3 months to introduce him to America, and he will be recording his new album in Sweden, then who knows!

I am a fan of Rhydian having seen him alive on the X-Factor tour - he was absolutely amazing, and has a huge fan base both here and in America/Canada, but he is totally different to Jonathon.

Lets wish them both well in their future careers.

    Re: Jon and Rhydian?

I agree with Marian - if Jonathan wants to be the huge success he has the talent to be - then he has to get as far away from the x factor tag as he possibly can. He has to be accepted into the classical world as a stand alone solo classical singer - and whether we like it or not - there is a stigma attached to reality tv shows - and people do still look upon the people who come from them as somehow not as good as other singers. Which is of course ridiculous - Jonathan can hold his own with any of the other singers in his genre out there and is hugely better than most - but he needs to win over new fans with his beautiful voice - and not because he was part of a group who were runners up on a talent show.

Jules I understand totally what you are saying - but it's not a case of him being ashamed of it - it's more that he needs people to judge him primarly on his voice not on where he came from. X Factor and G4 will always be part of his history - but it's over now and he has to move on.

I think any advertising/appearances from now on should concentrate on him and his voice and not on him as ex G4 or ex x factor.

They should also concentrate on promoting the more classical songs and duets - like Prayer in the Night, Un Giorno per noi, Che Gellida Manina and Vois Sur Ton Chemin - much more beneficial for Jon to be associated with Hayley and All Angels genre-wise than Rhydian (no offence to him - he is very talented and will be very successful) it's just that for the good of the direction which Jonathan is going in - Rhydian would not be the best duet partner.

It was so lovely to have Jon announced as just Jonathan Ansell on Sports Relief - not Jonathan Ansell from G4. And thats no offence to G4 -  it's just that there comes a time when it becomes unnecessary to keep saying it. Jonathan is a solo singer now and the days of G4 are gone.

Well that's just how I feel about it anyway......Smile

We are a great community arent we - we can make a debate out of anything!!!! Big Smile

    Re: Jon and Rhydian?

Jean, I am a great fan of Rhydian too and bought tickets for the X factor to see him, but unfortunately ended up having to miss it due to a very ill timed 24 hour sickness bug!.  I am so glad you enjoyed his performance and that you, like many others, have found him to be a real gentleman. You lucky lady getting to speak to him!

When I saw Rhydian on the X factor my first thought was that I would love to hear him and Jon perform together - two brilliant voices, but further down the line I see Jon as a more classical artist and Rhydian basing his success on a more theatrical note (I absolutely loved his interpretations of Phantom of the Opera and Get the Party Started).  That having been said I also loved his more serious singing of You Raise Me Up and Somewhere so it will be interesting to see just what his first album contains and whether he will eventually go into musical theatre or not.

I guess my ideal would be at some point to hear them sing one duet together, but I think they can both claim centre stage in their own right to do much work together.  Ideally I would like a separate concert tour for each one, so I can go to both!! Fingers crossed.

    Re: Jon and Rhydian?

I liked Rhydian's Baritone voice when he sang "Somewhere" and Phantom of the Opera" on XF, did not like him singing the pop tunes.

For me Jonathan's voice is much superior and he needs to stay away from the XF tag which he is working hard to do.

Sorry Jean I would not like to hear a duet of Jonathan and Rhydian, don't think their voices would be suited at all.  Personally I would love to hear Jonathan do a duet with Sarah Brightman.
